Why should I use heat?
Heat causes the blood vessels to open wide (dilate), which encourages more blood into the heated area, aiding the healing of damaged tissues.

Why shouldn`t I use heat?
Never use heat directly after an injury such as a sprain or strain. Your body naturally has an inflammatory response to injury and it will produce enough from the demand of the injury. It is possible that by using heat you may increase the level of inflammation needed by the recovering tissues which can lead to excessive swelling and pain.

Why should I use Ice?
Ice acts as temporary natural analgesic and can aid with the reduction of inflammation and swelling by constricting (making smaller) the blood vessels, leading to reduced circulation to the iced area.

Why shouldn`t I use Ice?
It is thought that by restricting circulation and preventing the natural inflammatory response that the recovery of the tissues will be delayed. Inflammation is a proven, necessary part of the body`s healing process.
